General Information
The Houston Choral Showcase has two performance seasons. The Fall season runs from mid-August to mid-December with an emphasis on Christmas and Holiday music. The Spring season starts in mid-January and ends in mid-June. Chorus rehearsals are held Monday evenings from 7:00 - 9:45 PM at Zion Lutheran Church, located at 3606 Beauchamp, in the Heights.

This showchoir performs choral music which includes jazz, swing, pop, Broadway, blues, and ballads. Choreography and staging is an integral part of performances along with vibrant costumes and props.

Audition Information
Auditions for the Fall 2008 Season will take place on Mondays, August 18 and 25 at 6:30 PM at Zion Lutheran Church. You need only audition during one of these dates. Auditions are open to men and women age 21 and over. Voice parts include soprano, alto, tenor and bass. Rehearsals for the Fall 2008 Season will begin on Monday, August 18, 2008.

The audition process will include singing scales, participating in an exercise matching pitches, simple sight reading and learning a short choral piece to be sung in a quartet.

NO PREPARED SOLOS will be accepted. A simple dance step will be taught to all prospective members to ascertain rhythm and the ability to learn choreography. Selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • ability to learn music correctly and quickly
  • ability to match pitch
  • ability to carry one’s own part within a mixed quartet
  • ability to blend with other voices

Audition results may be announced that evening or later in the week. Those receiving an invitation to join may confirm their membership by paying the membership dues of $80. Those Paying their dues will receive a rehearsal CD, and 4 tickets to our Grand Concert.

Membership Costs

  • Seasonal Dues: $80 (includes dues, rehearsal CD and 4 tickets to our Grand Concert
  • Women’s Costume: $125 + depending on size. Costume includes beaded sequined top and chiffon skirt. Earrings will be purchased by the member.
  • Men’s Costume: $125 (approximately). Includes gold vest with matching tie, gold satin shirt, white tux shirt and black tux pants. This cost will be lower if you already own the tux shirt and pants.

    • Costumes become the property of the chorus member. The current costume will be used until at least August 2010. A Polo style shirt may be purchased for more casual performances.

    Membership dues, costumes and any other incidentals can be purchased via Mastercard, Visa, check or cash.
